Situational Factors affecting bystander effect Flashcards
1
Q
Diffusion of Responsibility
A
- We feel less responsible when there are more people for help.
- For ex: In an emergency, the larger the crowd, the less likely we are to help because we think that other people will help them
2
Q
Noticing the event
A
- When we are in a large crowd, we keep to ourselves and pay less attention to what is going on around us.
- We are less likely to notice an emergency
3
Q
Pluralistic Ignorance
A
- In situations, we look to others and react based on what other people are doing
- No one is helping= not an emergency.
- Many people helping= we are likely to offer assistance also.
