SITE Flashcards
What is the most competent type of soil to build a building on?
Gravel
Name two types of frictional soil.
- Gravel
- Sand
Name two types of cohesive soil.
- Silt
- Clay
Define Plastic Limit.
How much water the soil can hold before it begins to expand.
Define Liquid Limit.
How much water the soil can hold before it becomes fluid.
What is the inverse of Well Sorted soil?
Poorly Graded
What type of soil grade is better for water drainage?
Poorly Graded soil is better because of it’s homogenous geometry (similarly sized pieces).
Why is well graded soil better for bearing strength?
Well graded soil has variously sized pieces that allow for a tighter fit and better compaction. More friction means more strength for frictional soil types.
Define water table.
The elevation below which the soil is saturated with water.
What is the term for a site that is assumed to be contaminated?
Brownfield Site
What is the angle of repose?
The angle that soil can sit in a pile or be dug out without falling in on itself.
How many square feet are in an acre?
43, 560 Square Feet
What is the formula to find the area of a triangle?
1/2 * Base * Height
How many feet are in a yard?
3 Feet
How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?
27 Cubic Feet
