What does the I in SIPOC mean?
Inputs: Materials, forms, specifications, or information required.
What does the P in SIPOC mean?

What does the C in SIPOC mean?
Customers: Customers, internal or external, who receive the output.
What does the R in SIPOC mean?
Requirements: What the customers require of the output.
What is SIPOC?
A valuable Lean Six Sigma tool that can be applied to just about every processing environment, from high volume manufacturing, offices, and service providers, to healthcare.
What is the benefit of creating a SIPOC diagram?
It can help a team save time and money. It eliminates the confusion that can hurt an improvement effort early on. It identifies any issues with the incoming material. And it defines the scope of a given project by clearly identifying its start and stop points.
What phase is the SIPOC used for in the Process Improvement project?
Its used in the “Define” phase because it helps teams define and understand the problem statement, and the process in which the identified problem resides.
What is the purpose of the SIPOC?
1) Identify the balance competing customer requirements.
2) Identifies gaps between inputs and outputs.
3) Identifies suppliers and customers.
4) Verifies team and information resource requirements.
5) Establishes the scope of the project and satisfies stakeholders that the problem area is captured in the process.
6) Builds consensus and resolves conflicts.
7) Targets the right metrics for verifying customer requirements.
8) Establishes who should participate on the project team.
What is a good SIPOC diagram?
It’s the first tool the team may use as it begins to identify process shortcomings that do not meet customer requirements, or inputs that do not meet its requirements. A thorough SIPOC is an indicator of a well-defined project.
