Who manages the passage of trains over SLW and how can they be identified?
Pilotman wearing pilotman armband (red with white lettering) or red flag tied around arm.
When is single line working introduced?
When one line of a double line becomes blocked.

Pilot man gets on at main aspect goes over points to opposite line where you are directed by a hand signaller through the points
What 2 authorities must you have before you enter SLW?
Pilotmans verbal authority and SLW ticket (RT3193)
List 5 pieces of information on SLW ticket?
Speed 50mph Speed over points 15mph. Appointed handsignallers. Applies between which two crossovers. Level crossings. Unworked points. TSR and ESR. Any other instructions.
How can you identify unworked points?
Handsignaller with green flag by day and green lamp by night
When does the pilotman travel with every train?
Working to and from an obstruction. If there is no handsignaller. Unless next train is travelling in the same direction.
If yours is the first train over SLW section what are your extra responsibilities?
Stop and alert any track workers and level crossing keepers of SLW.
How are level crossings operated when SLW is in operation?
They are locally controlled by a handsignaller if they are not signalled for wrong direction movements.
If SLW section is a long section how can it be divided?
With a hand signaller
When do you not get a ticket from the pilotman?
Assisting a failed train.
Evacuating a train.
Removing a divided portion of a train. Removing a train that has proceeded without authority.
If a train fails on SLW when will pilotman travel with the assisting train?
If it is approaching the failed train from the rear and removing it to the rear.
What protection must be provided if train fails on SLW?
Assistance protection.
How may you be signalled back onto mainline from SLW?
Pilotman. Handsignaller. Main aspect.
What must be done with ticket (RT3193) at end of SLW?
Must be cancelled and given to pilotman or handed in to office at end of turn.
