Mai Ya
Properties: sweet, neutral
Meridians entered: Spleen, Stomach
Functions: Aids the digestion of wheat, rice and fruits; starch.
Shen Qu
Properties: pungent, sweet and warm
Meridians entered: Spleen, Stomach
Functions: Aids the digestion of grains and dispels the effects of alcohol. Also for cereals.
Shan Zha
Properties: sour, sweet and slightly warm,
Meridians entered: Spleen, Stomach and Liver.
Functions: Aids the digestion of meat, fat and milk. Cholesterol. Hypertension, high blood pressure.
Careful in cases of weak stomach.
Lai Fu Zi
Properties: pungent, sweet and neutral
Meridians entered: Lung and Spleen.
Herbs and Formulas that Relieve Food Stagnation
Functions:
- Descends the Lung-Qi, soothes the Stomach-Qi and promotes the bowel movement.
- Eliminates phlegm from the Lung and the Stomach. Overweight.
Good for any food type stagnation.
Not good for weak stomach.
Wu Wei Zi
Properties: sour, warm
Meridian entered: Lung, Heart, Kidney
Functions:
- Contains the leakage of the Lung-Qi and stops cough
- Restrains the essences and stops diarrhea.
- Nourishes the Yin, body fluid, stops sweating and calms the mind.
Shan Zhu Yu
Properties: sour, warm
Meridian entered: Liver, Kidney
Functions:
- Tonifies the Kidney and Liver, stabilizes the essences. liv bld, kid essences
- Stabilizes the exterior and stop sweating.
Lian Zi
Properties: sweet, astringent, neutral
Meridian entered: Heart, Spleen, Kidney
Functions:
- Tonifies the Spleen and stops diarrhea.
- Harmonizes the Heart and Kidney, calms the spirit and stabilize the essence.
Wu Mei
Properties: (very) sour, warm
Meridian entered: Liver, Spleen, Lung, Large Intestine
Functions:
- Contains the leakage of the Lung-Qi and alleviates cough.
- Bind up the Intestine and Stops diarrhea.
- Contains the blood and stops bleeding.
- Nourishes the body fluid and alleviating thirst.
- Calms the ascaris and alleviates pain.
tabilize fluids in LU, intestines or LIV.
Helps calm and soften the liver. Irritation, LIV Qi is not moving properly - fluids go down and soften the LIV
Ban Xia
Properties: pungent, warm, poisoning (which can be reduced by processing with alumen)
Meridians entered: Spleen, Stomach
Functions and indications:
- Dries the dampness and transforms the phlegm.
- Soothes the stomach-Qi and stops vomiting and relieves nausea. Jiang Ban Xia. Obstruction of phlegm- deficiency of ST or ST heat. Pregnancy.
- Reduces fullness and disperses obstruction. Congestion in chest and epigastric area. Goiter. Scrofula. Plum pit Qi.
Chuan Bei Mu, Zhe Bei Mu
Properties: bitter, sweet, slightly cold (Chuan), bitter, cold (Zhe)
Meridians entered: Lung, Heart
Functions and indications:
- Clears heat and transforms phlegm. Clearing heat - Zhe is stronger
- Moistens dryness and stops cough.
- Drains heat, disperses restraint Qi and dissipates clumps or nodules.
Chuan - Sichuan. Zhe - Zhejiang
Chuan - more for phlegm.
Zhe- more for clearing heat. Clears heat from LU.
Zhu Ru
Properties: sweet, slightly cold
Meridians entered: Lung, Stomach, Gallbladder Functions and indications:
- Clears heat and transforms phlegm.
- Clears heat and soothes Stomach-Qi and stops vomiting
Dan Nan Xing
Properties: pungent, bitter, warm, poisoning (which can be reduced by processing with alumen) Dan Nan Xing is cold.
Meridians entered: Lung, Liver, Spleen
Functions and indications:
- Dries the dampness and transforms the phlegm.
- Expels wind and relieves spasm. Stroke, convulsions.
- Dissipates congealed blood and reduces swelling.
Gua Lou Shi
Properties: sweet, cold
Meridians entered: Lung, Stomach, Large intestine
Functions and indications:
- Clears heat and transforms phlegm. Yellow, sticky phlegm. Constipation due to heat, thirst.
- Promotes Qi movement and opens up the chest.
- Reduces swelling and dissipates clumps or nodules.
Sang Bai Pi
Properties: Sweet, cold
Meridians entered: Lung
Functions and indications:
- Drains the heat from the Lung and arrest asthma. Downward movement. Excess heat.
- Descends the Lung-Qi, increases urination and reduces edema.
Jie Geng
Used part: Dried root
Properties: Pungent, bitter, neutral
Meridians entered: Lung
Functions and indications:
- Disperses and ascends the Lung-Qi and transforms phlegm.
- Promotes discharge of pus and treats abscess.
Qian Hu
Properties: Bitter, pungent, slightly cold
Meridians entered: Lung
Functions and indications:
- Descends the Lung-Qi, transforms phlegm, expels wind-heat and stops cough.
Xing Ren
Properties: Bitter, warm, slightly poisoning
Meridians entered: Lung, Large Intestine
Functions and indications:
- Disperses and descends the Lung-Qi and relieves coughing and wheezing.
- Moistens the intestines and promotes bowel movement. Not for Yang Ming heat. Relation of Lu and LI, constipation due to dryness.
Pi Pa Ye
Properties: Bitter, neutral
Meridians entered: Lung
Functions and indications:
- Descends the Lung-Qi, transforms phlegm and stop cough.
- Sooths the stomach-Qi and stops nausea and vomiting.
Qiang Huo
Properties: Pungent, bitter, warm
Meridians entered: Lung, Liver, Kidney
Functions and indications:
- Expel wind, dampness and cold and stops pain. Entering Tai Yang, Du Mai. Focused on upper body. Ascending and dispersing property. A feeling of heaviness. Occipital headache. Aversion to cold. Fever. Tightness of muscles.
Du Huo
Properties: Pungent, bitter, slightly warm
Meridians entered: Kidney
Functions and indications:
- Expel wind and dampness and stops pain. Focused on lower body. Chronic KID deficiency. Wind damp or cold blocks the meridians -> creates qi/blood stagnations -> liver and damages tendons or kidney damages bones, lower back etc.
