What is are sins of omission?
when you know you should do something but don’t
What are examples of sins of omission?
Not praying
Not standing up for what is right
Not sharing Christ with others
Knowingly withholding facts in a civil proceeding or under oath
Deliberately making invisible someone in great need
What are sins of commission?
you know it’s a sin but do it anyways
What are examples of sins of commission?
Lying
Stealing
Disobey God
Breaking a commandment
What are the extents of guilt for a sin of omission?
How much thought and deliberation went into the act
The importance of the precept
The virtue that was opposed by the omission
What are moral sins?
Grave sins that can lead to damnation if not repented before death
What are examples of moral sins?
Abortion
Theft physical violence against the pope or a bishop
What does the church believe you do when committing a moral sin.
You are choosing hell over heaven
What are venial sins?
Less serious breaches of God’s law
Also known as sins of weakness
What are examples of venial sins?
Immortal thoughts that are less intentional
What are the five parts of Reconciliation?
examination of conscience, contrition, confession, penance, and absolution
What is the examination of conscience?
when you look at what happened in your life
based on the 10 commandments
What is the contrition?
when you feel bad about what you did
you accept that you did something wrong
you want to make up for what you did
a sincere sorrow for sins and a firm resolve to not repeat them
What is confession?
you are not the victim of the sin
it is not anyone else’s fault but your own, so you can change
admitting and naming one’s sins to a priest
accepting responsibility for one’s sins
What is penance?
not a makeup
doing an action that makes you aware of the wrong
making amends for one’s sins
What are examples of penance?
Returning stolen goods
Paying compensation for damage
Prayer of sorrow
Praying the Act of Contrition
What is absolution?
Forgiveness of sins by Jesus through the priest
The priest prays a prayer that forgives sins by the grace of God
