First aid
Who do we inform in a first aid incident
Adults
When the surface of the skin is damaged
Minor cut
When skin comes into contact with something hot
Minor burns
Caused by nose-picking, allergies, colds or injuries
Nosebleeds
Crack or break in the bone
Fracture
Injury to the joint where a bone is forced out of its normal position
Dislocation
Injury to the ligament where there is a partial or complete tear
Sprain
Injury to the muscle or tendon where there is a partial or complete tear
Strain
Using a splint to immobilise the injured area
Protection
Avoid physical activity that affects the injury until movements are pain-free
Rest
Apply a cold pack for 10-15 minutes.
Ice
Wrap a bandage snugly around the injury to reduce pain and swelling.
Compression
Keep the injury above the level of the heart whenever possible, to reduce swelling.
Elevation
A sports injury that recurs over an extended period of time.
