Q

What is Static Electricity?

A

-Build up of electrons that have been displaced on a surface
-Achieved by rubbing 2 surfaces together, electrons transferred from one surface to another
-Build up of electrons will either:
*dissipate over time
*“Jump” from negative to positive surface, causing sparks or some form of light/sound/thermal energy

Q

What is Current Electricity?

A

-Flow of electrons along a conductor, eg, copper wire
-Current electricity powers our electrical appliances
-Electrical energy is then transformed into heat(toaster), light(bulb), and kinetic energy(fan, motors)

Q

What is simple electrical circuits?

A

-Path along which electrons travel and deliver their energy
-Energy Source: Battery, power point, generator
-Energy User: Light bulb, heating element or motor
-Conductors: wires allow electrons to move along circuit

Q

What are Closed and Open Circuits?

A

-Switch controls open and close
-Electrons flow by a complete circuit or “closed”
-If the circuit is open, electrons will not flow and appliance is turned off
