What does it mean if two shapes are similar?

1. All of the angles are the same each other in both shapes.
2. All of the sides of one shape are adjusted by the same scale factor. (We can find the scale factor by dividing the sides of the new shape and the old shape.)

How is the ratio of the area and volume of similar shapes related to the ratio of the sides?
