Measles
Rash starts on head, spreads to body, lasts over a week
Rubella
Milder red rash, lasts around 3 days
Fifth Disease
“Slapped cheek” first, spreads to limbs and trunk, not usually distinct bumps
Roseola
High fever precedes rash stage, rash isn’t always present
Scalded Skin Syndrome
Split in skin occurs within the epidermis
Chicken Pox
No fever prodrome, lesions are superficial, mostly in the center of the body
Warts
common warts: painless, elevated rough growths on the fingers or other body parts
plantar: deep, painful papillomas on soles of feet
flat warts: smooth, skin-colored lesions that develop on face, trunk, elbows, and knees
Molluscum Contagiosum
skin lesions in the form of smooth, waxy nodules on face, arms, legs, and trunk of children; and genital areas of adults
Leishmaniasis
cutaneous: localized infection of the capillaries of the skin
Mucocutaneous: (central and South America) affects both the skin and mucous membranes
Cutaneous Anthrax
Papule becomes necrotic and later ruptures to form painless, black eschar
Ringworm
Circular raised lesions all are Dermatophytes
Superficial Mycoses
mild, chronic scaling and interferes with the production of melanocytes
Neonatal conjunctivitis
In babies less than 28 days old
Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Mucoporulent discharge
Viral Conjunctivitis
Clear discharge
Keratitis
Invasion of deeper eye tissues, blindness can occur
Scarlet fever
sandpaper feel to affected skin, severe sore throat
Small Pox
fever precedes rash, lesions are deep and primarily on the extremities
Meningitis (Neisseria)
Petechiae, meningococcemia, most serious form of meningitis
Meningitis (Strep)
serious, acute, most common meningitis in adults
