Signs Flashcards
What does whmis stand for
Workplace hazard material information system
Compressed gas
When contents are under strong pressure, it can explode
Examples are compressed air, carbon dioxide, propane, welding glasses
Since the compressed gas is usually like cold as the heat rises it can make the gas expand, if exposed to it it can give frostbite if u touch the gas
Flammable and combustible material
Will catch on fire if exposed to heat of any sort
Examples:propane, butane, spray paints,ethanol
The material will catch fire easily if come in contact with heat
Oxidizing material
Could cause fire or explosion if come in contact with wood or any other combustual materials
Examples: carbon monoxide, sulphuric acid
It can help a fire,
Poison me infectois material
Poison substance at cause irritation
Prorated exposure may cause birth defects, cancer or permanent damage
Example: mercury, benzene
Biohazard infectious materials
Could cause disease or serious illness
Lots of exposure could end up with death
Example: aids,hepatitis b and salmonella
They are found in animals and people and they can live in body tissues and blood and urine
Corrosive material
Can cause burn to the eyes
Examples:sulphuric acid, nitric acid, ammonia gas
It can cause serious burns to skin and other tissues like the lungs and eyes, it can eat away metal
Dangerously reactive material
Can cause explosion fire or release of toxic gasses when exposed to light heat vibration and extreme temperature
Example: pictic acid,ethylene oxide
I can make a toxins gas if exposed to water, it reacts to itself if bumped or moved around violently or if temperatures changes
