Significance of Lenses Flashcards
Testations.
What are the 3 Basic Components of a Cinema Lens?
- Focal Length.
- Stop or IRIS.
- Focus.
What are the functions of the 3 Basic Components of a Cinema Lens?
- Focal Length -> Is the number associated with the optical power of the lens. (The number = How magnified a lens is).
- Stop (Iris) controls how much light you let in.
- Focus -> Controls how much of the frame is in focus.
What are the features and differences between a Zoom Lens and a Prime Lens?
A prime lens has a fixed focal length that cannot be optically magnified whereas zoom lenses allow the operator to alter the focal length of a lens.
Name 2 popular contemporary prime lenses:
- ARRI SIGNATURE PRIMES.
- COOKE S4s
- Leica Summilux Cs
- Panavision Primos.
Name 2 Popular contemporary zoom lenses:
- Angeneiu Optimo (24-290mm)
- FUJINON 80-250MM
- PANAVISION PRIMO (19-90MM)
What do the numbers on the focal length suggest?
The higher the focal length, the tighter the shot. The lower the focal length, the wider the shot.
Name 3 common wide focal lengths:
- 18mm
- 24mm
- 35mm
Name 3 common long focal lengths:
- 85mm
- 100mm
- 135mm
How do lenses affect the depth of field in an image?
Wider lenses allow us to see more of the background with a deeper focus whereas longer lenses compress the background and have a shallower depth of field.
