What do ON and OFF mean in relation to a signal?
ON = Stop or if it is a distant signal then expect the next signal to be at danger OFF = Means you can proceed
What are the drivers responsibilities in respect of signals?
Obey all signals that apply to the movement of there train
What is the standard overlap in absolute block area?
400 metres
What is a track circuit and what they are used for in absolute block signalling?
There is a small current running through the rail so that when a train is present on the track it is indicated to the signaller on his panel
What instructions apply with yellow shunting signals?
When the disc is in the ON position then you can only proceed if you are going into a siding or shunt neck not into the mainline.
If it is in theOFF position then you can proceed as far as the line is clear
What signal controls the entrance to the absolute block section?
Section signal.
What is the purpose of the overlap?
To give you a safety margin!
Where would you find a limit of shunt indicator and what is the purpose of this signal?
It prevents conflicting movements and indicates where you can not proceed when shunting.
They are found in yards, sidings, shunt necks and on the mainline
If your train has an unsolicited brake application on the approach to a signal, when you have ruled out a TPWS brake demand what must you do?
Re-check signal
During shunting your train is required to start ahead of the signal what must you do?
Contact the signaller before moving.
