Chapter 10
Holmes chases J Small in the boat, shooting at the boat
A small ‘creature’ appears, turns out to be an islander
Islander tries to shoot poison dart at Watson
Police shoot at islander, he falls into boat
Chapter 11
J Small tells Holmes that he never meant for Bartholomew to be hurt
Small explains that Tonga threw poisoned darts without his approval
As punishment he hit Tonga with the end of a rope
Holmes offers Small a cigar and alcohol
Watson and Morstan open case, it is empty
Watson declares his love for Morstan
Chapter 9
Watson tells Morstan and Forrester about the case, leaving out the gruesome details
Holmes finds info for himself and returns later in a disguise to trick Watson and Jones
Jones comes to Holmes/Watson for help as his theory has fallen through
Jones agrees to three requirements set by Holmes: boat provided, 2 men to defend them and the chance to interview J Small
Chapter 1
Holmes is taking cocaine
Watson criticises him and he replies that he needs stimulation
Holmes criticises Watson’s ‘A Study In Scarlet’ and explains his deductive methods
Watson gives Holmes a watch and he figures out about Watson’s brother’s life
Morstan appears at door
Chapter 3
Holmes tells Watson he’s discovered that Major Sholto died four years after Captain Morstan and explains his reasoning
Holmes and Watson leave with Miss Morstan, Holmes taking a revolver
Morstan answers Holmes’ questions and gives him a piece of paper, but neither of them see any significance
Chapter 2
Morstan explains her case to Holmes
Her father disappeared years ago and she has been receiving pearls on his birthday ever since
Chapter 4
Major Sholto got a letter in India and requested that Arthur Morstan should see him
They argued about the treasure
Morstan has a heart attack, hits head on chest and dies
Thaddeus felt guilty about keeping treasure, Bartholomew wants to keep it
Chapter 5
They arrive at Pondicherry Lodge - a gothic building
Porter refuses to let Holmes, Watson and Morstan in because he doesn’t know the,
Porter turns out to know Holmes and lets them in
Housekeeper says Bartholomew isn’t answering them
They find Bartholomew dead with a thorn in his neck and ‘The Sign of the Four’ on a piece of paper
Chapter 6
Holmes investigates crime scene with Dr Watson
They discover that one man came in through the window and had a wooden leg
They think that the second man came through the roof and used the rope to help his partner climb up the house
They also find small naked footprints in the loft and start to think it might have been a small child
They conclude that the body of Bartholomew was poisoned by something that mimicked tetanus
Chapter 7
Watson drops off Miss Morstan and goes to collect Toby
He meets Holmes and they begin their investigation
Toby misleads them
Holmes’ deductions about Jonathan Small
Two officers learn about treasure, Small draws them a map
One officer uses the map, gets the treasure and takes it to England
J Small doesn’t collect the treasure because he is in prison
Major Sholto and Captain Morstan were the two officers, Major S is happy with his treasure
He gets a letter from India saying Small has escaped which gives him the heart attack
Major S guards himself against a wooden legged man
Small comes to England to get revenge
He hears Sholto is going to die and goes to his house and stands outside the window, worried that his sons are there
