Holmes investigates crime scene with Dr Watson
They discover that one man came in through the window and had a wooden leg
They think that the second man came through the roof and used the rope to help his partner climb up the house
They also find small naked footprints in the loft and start to think it might have been a small child
They conclude that the body of Bartholomew was poisoned by something that mimicked tetanus

Holmes’ deductions about Jonathan Small

A

Two officers learn about treasure, Small draws them a map
One officer uses the map, gets the treasure and takes it to England
J Small doesn’t collect the treasure because he is in prison
Major Sholto and Captain Morstan were the two officers, Major S is happy with his treasure
He gets a letter from India saying Small has escaped which gives him the heart attack
Major S guards himself against a wooden legged man
Small comes to England to get revenge
He hears Sholto is going to die and goes to his house and stands outside the window, worried that his sons are there
