What is Sifat?
Sifat denotes a quality or property of something. It’s plural is Sifaat.
Tajweed terminology, sifat refers to the qualities of the Arabic letters when they are recited
Necessity of Sifat
a) to pronounce the letters perfectly that come from different makhraj
b) to distinguish between the sounds of two different letters
c) to identify letters thst are weak and letters that are strong

Mutadwadda
Ghayr Mutadwadda
Mutadwadda
The first ten Sifaat are mutadwadda, split into 5 pairs and in each pair the two sifaats are opposites
Ghayr Mutadwadda
The remaining Sifaat fall into the Ghayr mutadwadda, they have no opposites

Means to express clearly.
Tajweed terminology: State of stopping the breath when uttering strong letters. Since these letters are strong, the breath ablbriptly ends.

Means thin or light sound.
Tajweed terminology: state when breathing continues while uttering letter. Breathing does not cease.

Means strength.
Tajweed terminology: letters which are stressed heavily and when read, their sound comes to a sudden stop.

Means soft.
Tajweed terminology: When the sound continues while reading the letters that are not stressed heavily
Tawasut
Is in state between Rikhawat and Shiddaat, however falls under rikhawat due to stronger inclination towards the sound continuing rather then stopping.

tajweed terminology: state when the tounge is lifted towards the hard palate when pronouncing

Means to drop or slope
Tajweed terminology: To drop the tounge and detach it from hard palate when pronouncing the 22 letters.

Means to accumulate or to attach.
Tajweed terminology: To attach the edge of the tounge with the hard palate whilst pronouncing

Means to seperate or detach.
Tajweed terminology: To keep tounge seperate from hard palate.

Means edge or tip.
