Sience Flashcards
this refers to an object’s resistance to friction or being scratched.
Hardness
This is an object’s ability to resist cracking when a forcé is applied to it such as when its bent.
Toughness
Determined by the quantity of force needed to make a material deformed when it is pushed or pulled
Strenght
an object’s ability to deform without breaking
Plasticity
An object’s ability to return to its original shape after a force has been applied to it.
Elasticity
An object’s ability to soak up a liquid or to take in energy such as heat or radiation.
Absorbency
is hard, transparent and strong, it doesn’t scratch easily nor deforms.
Glass
is not tough, elastic, plasti or absorbent
Glass
There are 55 diferente types… most of them are tough, strong and hard.
metal
also have plastic properties
Most metals
can be shaped into elastic items like springs.
Metals
are prone to rusting if they are in contact with water.
Metals
Materials made from crude oil.
Plastics
are made from long chains of carbon and hydrogen molecules.
Plastics
are very strong and hard but not that tough.
Hard plastics
are not strong or hard but are tough and they have elastic properties
Soft plastics
cotton, wool, silk, hemp and linen.
Organic
nylon, polyester and acrylic.
Synthetic
are hard and tough but not strong
Fabrics
Made of long fibers, woven or knitted.
Fabric
include oak, cedar, mahogany and pine.
Wood
are hard, strong and fairly tough
Woods
is absorbent
Wood
To prevent absorbency from happening, Wood is
treated and varnished wich adds a waterproof layer.
Some types of Wood are
elastic but most are neither plastic nor elastic.
