Si-based Alkene Formation Flashcards
Give the name of this reaction
The Peterson Olefination
What’s significant about the utility of the Peterson Olefination?
Each diastereomer of the ß-hydroxysilane can be converted to either alkene isomer
Under acidic conditions, what alkene does the syn/anti isomer give in the Peterson Olefination?
Under acid:
Syn isomer = Z alkene
Anti isomer = E
Under basic conditions, what alkene does the syn/anti isomer give in the Peterson Olefination?
Under base:
Anti isomer = Z alkene
Syn isomer = E alkene
(Opposite to that under acid)
Give the mechanism of the Peterson Olefination under acid for the syn isomer
Z alkene is selectively produced
Give the mechanism of the Peterson Olefination under base for the anti isomer
