Open the bonnet, identify where the windscreen washer fluid is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of windscreen washer fluid.
Flick the switch in the footwell to open the bonnet
Walk round and use the catch left of centre to lift the bonnet fully
Secure the bonnet using the catch stick
Identify the windscreen washer reservoir - the tank with the blue top next to the engine coolant tank (left)
Compare the level with the min and max levels shown on the side
Show me how you would set the demister controls to clear all the windows effectively, this should include both the front and rear screens.
Turn the ignition on and start the engine
Push demist buttons for both the front and rear screens
Set the temperature to warm
Set the air direction to clear windscreen and windows.
Engine can but doesn’t have to be started for this demonstration.
Show me how you would check that the direction indicators are working.
Apply the indicators or hazard warning switch and check functioning of all indicators
Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.
The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable.
Tell me how you would check that the headlights & tail lights are working. (No need to exit the vehicle).
Turn the Ignition on
Apply the dipped headlights - this is done by twisting the end of the left hand stick twice to the left
Check the warming light has lit up
Walk round vehicle or look for reflections etc
Show me how you would check that the brake lights are working on this car. (I can assist you, if you need to switch the ignition on, please don’t start the engine).
Turn on ignition - operate the brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors, etc., or ask someone to help.
Show me how you would switch on the rear fog lights and explain when you would use them. (No need to exit the vehicle)

Switch on the dipped headlights - done by twisting end of stick twice left
Twist middle of left hand stick up/left one from the middle
Check the warming light has lit up
Only use when you can’t see 100m
Show me/explain how you would check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey.
Before starting a journey;
gentle pressure on the steering wheel, maintained while the engine is started should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate

turning the steering wheel immediately after moving off will give an

Press the centre of the steering wheel

Flick the switch in the footwell to open the bonnet
Walk round and use the catch left of centre to lift the bonnet fully
Secure the bonnet using the catch stick
Identify the brake fluid tank - yellow lid with (O) sign on it (right)
Compare the level to the min and max level shown on the side
Show me how you would switch your headlight from dipped to main beam and explain how you would know the main beam is on whilst inside the car.
Turn the ignition on
Switch on the dipped headlights - done by twisting the end of the left hand stick left twice
Switch on the main beam - done by pushing the left hand stick away from you once (whilst the dipped headlights are on)
Check the main beam warning light has lit up
Remember to turn the main beam off when other vehicles approach
Show me how you would clean the windscreen using the windscreen washer and wipers.
Turn on the ignition
Pull the right hand stick toward you and hold for a second until water sprays on to the windscreen and wipers move it away
If the wipers continue push the stick back to original position to stop them
Tell me how you would check the brakes are working before starting a journey.
Apply the breaks as you set off to test them - they should not feel spongy or slack and the vehicle shouldn’t pull to one side.
Tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
No cuts and bulges
Use an accurate tread depth gauge to ensure there is at least 1.6mm of tread depth across the central 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.
Show me how you would check the handbrake for excessive wear, make sure you keep control of the vehicle.
Apply footbrake firmly.
Apply the handbrake - ensure it can be applied smoothly
Release the footbrake - the handbrake should hold the car still without being too high
Shows it is not at the end of the working travel.
