Show Me Tell Me Questions Flashcards
Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.
Lift the bonnet, identify where the engine oil is. I would then wipe the engine level indicator clean. Then dip it back into the oil and pull it out, check that it marks between the minimum and maximum markers.
Show me how you would check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey.
If the steering becomes heavy the system may not be working properly. I would start the engine, and put gentle pressure onto the steering wheel and there should be a sight and noticeable movement as the system starts to operate. Or turn the steering wheel after moving off will give a clear indication that the power assistance is functioning.
Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine coolant level and tell me how you would check that the engine has the correct level.
Lift the bonnet, point to where the engine coolant is, explain that there are maximum and minimum markers and you have to top it up so its between these two points.

The information is in the manufacturers guide, I would use a pressure gauge, I would check and change the pressure when the tyres are cold.
Tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
I would check that there are no cuts or bulges and a tread depth of 1.6mm across the central 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.
