Open the bonnet, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, re-insert it, and then pull it back out again. Check that the oil level is between the minimum and maximum marks.

They should not feel spongy or slack. Brakes should be tested as you set off. And when you set off, test them again and the vehicle shouldn’t pull to one side

Before driving, make 2 simple checks:
- check by gently pressing the steering wheel while starting the engine. Should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate
- Alternatively, turning the wheel just after moving off will give immediate indication that power assisted steering is functioning.
The steering should feel lighter –> power assistance is functioning.
