How to open the bonnet
Release lever in the footwell on drivers side, then release lever underneath the bonnet
Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient oil
Point at the dipstick and say that I would pull out the dipstick, wipe all the oil off of it with a cloth and then put it back in and pull it out again.
It should leave an oily mark between the minimum and maximum markers
Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient engine coolant
Check the engine coolant and look on the side of it. The liquid should be between the minimum and maximum markings. If I had to top it up I would only do so when it was cold
Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid
The brake fluid container will have a lid with a little circle on it between a set of brackets. Down its side the liquid should be between the maximum and minimum markings
Tell me how you’d check the brakes are working before starting a journey
Drive forwards slowly and press the foot brake. It shouldn’t feel spongy or slack, and the car shouldn’t pull to one side
Tell me where you’d find the j formation for the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how the tyre pressure should be checked
I would check all the tyres including the spare tyre when they’re cold, using an air pressure gage. Information will either be in the drivers manual or on a door pillar
Tell me how you’d ensure your head restraint is correctly adjusted
The head rest should be adjusted so the rigid part is at least as high as my eye and as close to the back of my head as comfortable
Tell me how’s your check the tyres so they have sufficient tread depth
Check all tyres using a tread depth gage. The depth should be no less than 1.6mm across the centre of the tyre. There also shouldn’t be an y cuts or bulges on the tyre.

I would turn the dipped headlights are on in my car, then I would walk around the car to ensure the lights are on

An ABS light would appear on the dash

I would press the foot brake and either look for reflections in windows, or ask for someone to help to check if they worked.

As soon as I move off I should feel that the steering is light to turn and not heavy

To turn them on I would turn on the dipped headlights, then press the rear fog light button which faces to the left. I would know it’s on by seeing a warning light on the dash
I would use it when visibility is less than 100metres.

I’d turn on the dipped headlights, then push my indicator stick away from me. A warning light will appear to show that the main beam is on
