How should tyre pressures be checked?
Use a reliable pressure gauge. Check and adjust the pressures when the car is cold and don’t forget a spare tyre, remember to refit valve caps
How would you check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use of the road?
Check that there isn’t any cuts or bulges and at least 1.6 MM. Of tread depth across the central 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference
How do you check that the brakes are working before starting a journey?
Brakes shouldn’t feel sponges or slack. Brakes should be tested as you set off. Be hike shouldn’t pull to one side.
How do you check that the headlights and tall lights are working?
Operate light switch (possibly turn on ignition)
How do you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the vent of a crash?
Rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eyes or top of ears.
How would you know that there’s a problem with your anti lock braking system?
Warning light on dashboard should illuminate is there is a fault.
How can you check that the power assisted steering is working?
If steering becomes heavy, system may not be working well.
- Gentle pressure on the steering wheel maintained while the engine is started should result in a slight movement as the system begins to operate.
- Turning the steering wheel just after moving will indicate that the power assurance is functioning.
How would you check that the brake lights are working
Operate the brake pedal. Make use of reflections in Windows, garage doors, get examiner to check is needed and when testing don’t start then gone only the ignition.
How would you check the direction indicators are working?
By applying the indicators or hazard warning switch and check functioning of all indicators. You nights need to turn ignition on BUT NOT THE ENGINE
How would you check that the horn is working? (Off road)
Check is carried out by using control. You may need to switch ignition on but don’t start the engine
How would you check the parking brake (handbrake) for excessive wear; make sure you keep safe control of vehicle
Apply foot brake firmly.
Demonstrate by applying handbrake so when it’s fully applied it secures itself and isn’t at the end of the working travel.
How would you clean the windscreen wipers?
Find windscreen wiper stick and push to engage. May need to turn icons iron on but not the engine.
How do you set the demos yet to clear the front and back windows effectively?
Set all relevant controls including: fan, temperature, air direction and heated screen. Engine doesn’t have to be started for this.
How do you witch the rear fog lights on?
Set all relevant controls including dipped headlights and ignition is necessary. Check warning lights are on and explain why you use them.
How would you switch your headlights from dipped to main beam and explain how you would know main bean is on whilst in the car?
Operate switch (with ignition and engine if necessary) check with main beam and warning light (Blue button to push in car)
