Identify brake fluid reservoir, tell me how you would check you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid?
Identify hydraulic fluid reservoir and check brake fluid against min/max level indicator
Identify where you would check the engine coolant level, tell me how you would check the engine has the correct level.
Identity engine coolant tank, check the min and max level on side.
If below this, unscrew the cap when engine cold, pour in coolant until max is reached.
Check power assisted steering is working before starting
If steering becomes heavy, may be faulty
Apply gentle pressure on wheel whilst the engine started, should result in slight movement
Check engine oil level for sufficient oil
Identify dipstick, remove and wipe clean
Reinsert and remove, check oil against min/max markings
Check level of windscreen washer reservoir
Identify reservoir tank, check it’s between the max and min
Check if the horn is working
Press the horn
Check brake lights are working
Whilst pressing brake, have someone check
Check headlights and tail lights are working
Turn on ignition and lights
Walk around and check
Check indicators are working
Press hazard warning lights
Walk around
Where to find into of recommended tyre pressures and check tyre pressure
Info found in car manual
Check using reliable pressure gauge
Check handbrake for excessive wear
Apply foot brake and apply handbrake
When fully applied, should secure car and not be at end of its working travel
Check head restraint correctly adjusted
Should be adjusted so centre of head restraint at least as high as eyes/top of ears
Close to back of head as comfortable
Check tyres of sufficient tread depth
No cuts or bulges on sides
Tread depth must be at 1.6mm across central 3/4s of the breadth of tyre and around entire outer circumference
Measure using tyre depth gauge
Clean windscreen?
Operate control, hold for 3 secs to wash and wipe windscreen
Set demister controls and clear windows
Set all relevant controls, including fan, temp air direction
