How would you check brakes worked before a journey?
.Drive slowly somewhere safe to test the brakes
.Brake to a full stop
.Pedal should feel firm, not spongy
.Car should not pull to one side
How to make sure the head restraint is properly adjusted for the event of a crash
The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable. Note: Some restraints might not be adjustable.
How to check for tread depth
.I would check all 4 tyres
.Using a tread depth gauge to check the central part of the tyre
.Must be at least 1.6 mm of depth
.Check side wall for damage, looking for any cuts or bulges

Tyre pressure info can be found on the inside of the door. Pressure should be checked when cold, using a pressure gauge, comparing gauge reading to sticker
How would you check headlights and tail lights are working?
Turn on the ignition, and the instruments light up, turn on dipped lights, and check the warning lamps illuminate, and then walk around the car checking the head and tail lamps
How would you know if you had a problem with your ABS?
Turn on ignition, look for yellow ABS warning light. If it stays lit there is a fault
How would you check direction indicators are working?
Switch on hazards, then walk around car, checking all 6 indicators are working correctly
How would you checking the break lights are working?
I would switch on the ignition, press the break pedal, and ask someone to look at my break lights to make sure they illuminate
How would you check the power assisted steering is working?
With the engine off the steering will feel very heavy, with the engine switched on it should be much lighter.
How would you switch on rear fog lights, explain when you would use them?
turn ignition on, turn on dipped headlights, then turn on rear fog lamp, check amber warning light is lit, fog lamps should only be used when visibility is less than 100 m
How to turn headlight from dipped to mainbeam and how would you check main beam is on?
Switch on ignition, switch on dipped, switch on main beam, look for blue warning light.
How would you check the engine has sufficient oil?
Pop the bonnet with the bonnet release in the car, open the bonnet and prop it with the stay, take the dipstick out, wipe it clean, then insert and remove it again, and check the oil level against the maximum and minimum markers.
How would you check the engine has sufficient coolant?
Pop the bonnet with the bonnet release in the car, open the bonnet and prop it with the stay, identify the engine coolant reservoir
How would you check the engine has sufficient hydraulic break fluid?
Pop the bonnet with the bonnet release in the car, open the bonnet and prop it with the stay, identify, the hydraulic break fluid reservoir, and check it against the max min markers.
