What views are used in shoulder radiography?
Mediolateral
Caudo-cranial
Mediolateral Shoulder Radiography Positioning
○ Dog placed in lateral recumbency
○ Extend limb of interest cranially and ventrally and tie
○ Retract contralateral limb caudally and tie
○ Extend neck dorsally to avoid superimposition
Secure with sandbag
○ Place foam pad under chest to ensure dog is parallel to table
○ Ensure elbow is fully lateral and flat to cassette

Over humeral head
Mediolateral Shoulder Radiography Collimation
Distal 1/2 of scapula
Proximal 1/3 of humerus
Caudo-cranial Shoulder Radiography Positioning
○ Dog placed in dorsal recumbency
○ Palpate head of humerus to find joint
○ Use sandbags and wedges or trough under hips to keep dog straight
○ Turn head away from limb of interest
○ Extend limb cranially and tie
