Shoulder Pain Flashcards
Adhesive capsulitis
- also known as?
- common in whom?
- features?
- loss of which movements in 50% of patients?
Frozen shoulder
Common in middle-age females and diabetics
Characterised by painful, stiff movement
Limited movement in all directions,
with loss of external rotation and abduction in about 50% of patients
Supraspinatus tendonitis
- what is it?
- painful arc abduction between which degrees?
- tenderness over what part of acromion?
Rotator cuff injury
Painful arc of abduction between 60 and 120 degrees
Tenderness over anterior acromion
what % of diabetics may have an episode of frozen shoulder
20%
Mx of Frozen Shoulder
no single intervention has been shown to improve outcome in the long-term
treatment options include NSAIDs, physiotherapy, oral corticosteroids and intra-articular corticosteroids
Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation
key features:
- normally secondary to direct injury?
- is the clavicle prominent?
Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation normally occurs secondary to direct injury to the superior aspect of the acromion. Loss of shoulder contour and prominent clavicle are key features.
Glenohumeral dislocation
About 50% of anterior glenohumeral dislocations are associated with this lesion?
A Hill-Sachs lesion - when the cartilage surface of the humerus is in contact with the rim of the glenoid
Supraspinatus tear
most common of rotator cuff tears
- occurs in whom?
t occurs as a result of degeneration and is rare in younger adults
