-Occipital protuberance
-Spinous processes of C7-T12
Insertion: Trapezius
-Clavicle
-Acromion
-Spine of scapula
Innervation: Trapezius
Accessory nerve (CN11)
Action: Trapezius
-Upper: elevates scapula
-Middle: retracts scapula
-Lower: depresses scapula
Origin: Deltoid
-Inferior spine of scapula
-Lateral margins of acromion
-Anterior border of lateral clavicle
Insertion: Deltoid
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Innervation: Deltoid
Axillary nerve (C5, C6)
Action: Deltoid
-Anterior: flexes and medially rotates arm
-Middle: abducts arm
-Posterior: extends and laterally rotates arm
Origin: Levator scapulae
Transverse processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
Insertion: Levator scapulae
Superior angle of scapula
Innervation: Levator scapulae
Dorsal scapular (C5) and cervical C3 & C4 nerves
Action: Levator scapulae
Elevates scapula and tilts the glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating the scapula
Origin: Rhomboid major
Spinous processes of T2-T5
Insertion: Rhomboid major
Medial border of scapula below scapular spine
Innervation: Rhomboid major
Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5)
Action: Rhomboid major
Retract scapula and rotate it to depress glenoid cavity, fix scapula to thoracic wall
Origin: Rhomboid minor
Spinous processes of C7 and T1
Insertion: Rhomboid minor
Medial border of scapula above scapular spine
Innervation: Rhomboid minor
Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5)
Action: Rhomboid minor
Retract scapula and rotate it to depress glenoid cavity, fix scapula to thoracic wall
Origin: Supraspinatus
Supraspinatus fossa of scapula
Insertion: Supraspinatus
Greater tubercle of humerus
Innervation: Supraspinatus
Suprascapular nerve (C5, C6)
Action: Supraspinatus
Initiates arm abduction
Origin: Infraspinatus
Infraspinatus fossa of scapula
