Shoulder Mechanics and Soft tissue Flashcards

1
Q

Scapulothoracic Articulation

A

scapula glides of ribcage with shoulder motion
for every 2deg of GH: 1 deg at the scapulothoracic
–> initiated up to 30 deg by GH joint

need to treat SD in Tspine to allow optimal function

Q

Sternoclavicular joint

A

capable of A/P, SUP/INF AND rotation

can be restricted with shoulder injury (especially in infections)

Q

Arterial supply to RC muscles

A

suprascapular a. can be affected by SD in anterior and middle scalenes, upper TVs, CVs,ribs, clavicles etc (same with venous drainage)
(similar to lymphatic drainage)

Q

sympathetic tone

A

can reduce lymphatic drainage when active
can be increased due to thoracic SD

from T2-T6

Q

Throwing tensegrity chain

A

force is transmitted from ground –>lower extremity–> spine–> shoulder
> if one structure breaks down, the entire chain is compromised putting shoulder at risk
**essential to have stable scapula from ipsilateral hip, trunk, and gluteals
***Psoas major tension is a major contributor to scapular destabilization–> RC injury

Q

Muscle predisposed to injury from throwing

A

posterior shoulder muscles such as the posterior delt and teres minor (involved with breaking)

Q

Thoracolumbar junciton

A

SD at T10-L2–>alters thoracolumbar fascia (lats, psoas major affected)–>somatovisceral reflex to adrenal gland–>adrenal fatigue in athletes

Q

Spencer’s Technique

A

1) Extend: have pt flex against you
2) Flexion: have pt extend against you
3) Circumduction w/ compression
4) Circumduction w/ traction
5) Adduction/ER: have pt abduct against you
6) Abduction: adduct against you
7) IR: hand behind back, pt ER by pushing elbow into your hand
