Scapular Motion

A
  • Elevation (up/parallel to spine)
  • Depression (return from elevation)
  • aBduction (protraction) - away from spine with lateral tilt around thorax
  • aDd (retraction) - moving closer to spine
  • Upward (forward tilt) - turning on horizontal axis so taht posterior surface faces upward and inferior angle protudes. Accompanied y longitudinal axis rotation of clavicle.
  • Up/down rotation - frontal plane rotation in relation to glenoid fossa’s elevation or depression.

A

Pt supine:
aBd = pt SHRUGS - should feel clavicular head/sternum = INFERIOR mvmt
aDd = flex shoulder to 90 and forcefully reach to ceiling - should feel POSTERIOR mvmt
