Shoulder Flashcards
What are the dynamic stabilizers of the shoulder?
Rotator Cuff
- supraspinatus
- infraspinatus
- subscapularis
- teres minor
What are the static stabilizers of the shoulder?
Ligaments
Capsule
Glenoid labrum
What are the scapular stabilizers?
Rhomboids and Serratus Anterior
Rhomboids do what for the scapula?
Retract
Serratus anterior does what for the the scapula?
Protraction (prevents winging scapula)
How is the supraspinatus tested?
Empty can 30* abduction
Ext/Int rotation MMT
Proprioception Rx for shoulder
Rhythmic stabilization
Perturbations
Body blade
BAPS/Wobble board
Scapula force couples: upward rotation?
Upper trap
Lower trap
Serratus anterior
Scapula force couple: downward rotators?
Pectoralis minor
Rhomboids
Levator scapulae
Scapular protractors
Pectoralis minor
Serratus anterior
Scapular retractors
Rhomboids
Trapezius
Lower Serratus Anterior
Scapular Elevators
Upper trapezius
Rhomboids
Lower scapulae
What do closed kinetic chain exercises do?
They facilitate co-contraction, permit stabilization with less shear force, facilitate proprioception for stabilization
What is primary impingement?
A result of structures present in narrow subacromial space
What is secondary impingement?
Subacromial space narrowed by alterations in shoulder function. May be caused by or result in instability.
What is the function of the Serratus Anterior?
Holds scapula on wall (protraction)
What is the function of the rhomboids and middle trapezius?
Prevent round shoulders- control scapular retraction
What is the function of the rotator cuff?
Depress humeral head into lower glenoid fossa
How much force do the legs and trunk provide for overhead activities?
55%
