What is Establishing Shot?

A

A

When a shot frames subject from mid-chest to just above their head. Reveal characters details and prioritizing story. Use it when you get intimate with subject without loosing their physicality. Medium Close up is going from Head to chest.

An extreme close up frames a subject to isolate a specific area. This could be lips, ears or nose. But eyes are the typical focus. They are also called Insert shots.

Insert shot are commonly used when you want to highlight and isolate something crucial to the narrative.

It is the most intimate and dramatic shot size.
