introduction: sets up the story, introducing characters, problem, setting
rising action: where the problem develops a number of events leading to the climax
describe climax and falling action
climax: highest point in the story where the exciting events occur
falling action: contains the events that bring the story to an end
describe conclusion
conflicts are resolved and the story is ended or at its end
Characterization
the information the author gives the reader about the character
4 ways the author reveals a characters traits
- their physical appeareance
- what they say, think, feels, dreams
- what they do
- what other characters say about them
protagonist Vs. antagonist
- the main character or hero of the story
- the person or force working against the protagonist
describe the narrator
person who tells the story gives background info and fills details between dialogue
flat Vs. round character
flat: simple and doesn’t have many traits
round: has a complex personality and many traits
static Vs. dynamic
static: a character that the same throughout the entire story
dynamic: a character that changes and develops through the story
foil
a character who adds contrast on the protagonist
