short answer questions Flashcards
- Electrons lose energy as they go through a circuit. Where does this energy come from? Where does this energy go?
This energy comes from the battery and in the form of electrons. The energy leaves the circuit as a result of resistance and heat an shit.
- What is the différence between AC and DC? When is each generated?
AC: A current flowing one way, then another, back and forth, very quickly.
DC: The unidirectional flow or movement of electric charge carriers.
AC is generated when things are moved back and forth.
- How does voltage change when batteries are connected in series/ parallel?
The voltage, when connected in series goes up, but when connected in parallel, the voltage remains the same
- How does the current change for series and parallel when additional loads are added? What happens to the brightness of the bulbs in each?
Series Circuits:
The voltage remains the same, current flowing decreases & résistance increases.
VT = V1 + V2 + V3 Electrical Potential (E) same
IT = I1 = I2 = I3 Current ⇩
RT = R1 + R2 + R3 Resistance ⇧
Parallel Circuits: ⇨
The total current flowing from the source of electrical energy equals the sum of all the separate branch currents in the circuit.
VT = V1 = V2 = V3
IT = I1 + I2 + I3
1 = 1 + 1 + 1
RT R1 R2 R3
