Q

How were children treated differently from today?

A

n the 1800s, most children had to work to support their families, except for those from wealthy backgrounds. Child labor during that period involved children performing adult tasks, often with dangerous and strenuous work, and receiving lower wages. An illustration of this is the presence of 449 boys working in Nova Scotia’s coal mines in 1866, making up nearly 15 percent of the mining workforce.
