Shock Year 2 Content Flashcards
Definition of Shock?
Life -threatening
When the body is not getting enough blood flow
What are the main types of shock?
- Cardiogenic
- Haemorrhagic (hypovalaemia)
- Distributive
- Obstructive
What is the physiological response to shock?
Failure of the circulatory system to supply sufficient blood to perpheral tissues to meet basic metabollic requirements for oxygen and nutrients and the incomplete removal of metabollic wastes from the affected tissues.
What is sepsis?
Life threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated response to infection
What is Septic shock?
Septic shock should be defined as a subset of sepsis in which particulary profound circulatory, cellular, and metabollic abnormalitites are associated with a greater risk of mortality than with sepsis alone
What are the types of sepsis
Cardiogenic
Distributive
Tissure poisoning
Preload deficiency
What is the treatment for sepsis ? Sepsis Bundle?
- Give oxygen to maintain saturation.
- Take blood cultures and consider source control
- Give IV abx according to local protocol
- Start IV fluid resuscitation
- Monitor hourly urine output
