Shock + Sepsis Flashcards
What is the base problem of shock?
-Base problem of shock is we are not getting o2 to the cells – we are not getting O2 out to our body cells
-inadequate tissue and organ perfusion
With shock what does the hypoperfusion of the tissues lead to?
Hypoperfusion – we are going to revert to anaerobic
metabolism, which creates an increase in lactic acid (the most critical marker is our latic level) – leads to severe acidosis – throws us into metabolic acidosis
What is hypovolemic shock?
Hypovolemic:
-We don’t have enough gas – blood – not enough blood going around into the body – can also be caused from dehydration
What is cardiogenic shock?
Cardiogenic
-Pump problem – the heart is unable to get as much blood going around to the body – big cause is an MI
What is obstructive shock?
Obstructive
-Either have a PE (massive one) – or tension pneumothorax - happens cause we are blocking the pipes
What is distributive (circulatory shock)? What are some examples?
Distributive
-Something is wrong with the pipes – relative hypovolemia – to much blood circulating
1.) Anapalatic
2.) Neurogenic
3.) Septic
