Q

What is the cause of carcinogenic shock?

What are the consequences of it?

A
  • due to any form of pump failure, but most commonly myocardial infarction
  • ABP falls and CVP rises
  • the fall in BP strong activates the sympathetic nervous system, leading to widespread vasoconstriction (expect the brain)
  • strong sympathetic drive to the kidneys (and, more directly, the fall in renal perfusion pressure) activates the RAAS
