Shock Flashcards
Grey Turner\s sign and Cullen\s sign is typically seen in what type of shock
Hypovolemic shock due to an abdominal injury , kidneys can be damaged (Grey Turner) or any other organs in the abdominal region
Acute MI, CHF and cardiac dysrhythmias can lead to which type of shock?
Cardiogenic shock
Tampnade, PE and Pneumothorax can lead to which shock?
Obstructive
Anaphylactic shock what happens to your BP and airway?
BP drops and airway narrows. The histamines will irritate the bronchioles causing bronchospasm and will stimulate vasodilation, causing increase in permeability and a subsequent drop in blood pressure over time
Main concern is the airway as with permeability, we are concerned of swelling of the airway and tongue
Neurogenic shock is a sub type of another shock which is?
Distributive shock, innervations of nerves is lost and vasodilation happens and your blood begins to pool, arteries and veins fail to contract dropping your BP and leading into shock.
- With spinal injury below C-_, diaphragmatic breathing occurs with no control over intercostals
- With spinal injury above C-_, respiratory arrest is immediate due to loss of nervous control in diaphragm

Pneumonia and UTI can lead to what type of shock?
Septic shock, With fever present, body has increased demand for Oxygen and will have more cellular metabolism leading to increase of CO2 build up in the body
** End-Tidal is a great indicator and tool for this patient if available**
Septic shock
- Presence of TWO or more of following:
Temp __C
Pulse >__ bpm (tachycardic)
RR >__ (tachypneic) - Plus at least ONE of the following:
Signs of hypoperfusion
Systolic BP
- Temp <36C or >38C
Pulse >90 bpm (tachycardic)
RR >20 (tachypneic) - Signs of hypoperfusion
Systolic BP <90mmHg (hypotensive)
