Shock Flashcards
Understand princples
What is Shock?
Multisystem end-organ hypoperfusion
Clinical indicators of shock…
Reduced MAP Tachycardia Tachypnea Cool skin and extremeties Altered mental status Oliguria
End result of multiorgan hypoperfusion
Hypoxia with lactic acidosis
End result of multiorgan hypoperfusion
Hypoxia with lactic acidosis
When shock is considered, what should be assessed first?
Cardiac Output
Clinical signs of inc CO?
Widened pulse pressure
Warm extremeties
Bounding pulses
Signs of diminished cardiac output
Narrow pulse pressure
Cool extremeties
Delayed cap refill
If patient has hypotension with signs of decreased cardiac output, look for history of
Hemorhage
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Polyuria
Hypotensive patient with inc intravascular volume and cardiac dysfxn
S3/4 gallop
Incr jvp
Extremity edema
Crackles
Hypotensive patient with inc cardiac output
Can be sepsis
Liver failure
Pancreatitis
