Shock Flashcards
What is Shock?
Hypoperfusion of tissues leading to tissue hypoxia.
What’re the different types of shock?
Cardiogenic - Ventricular failure (MI, arrhythmia)
Hypovolaemic - loss of circulating blood volume (trauma, GI bleed, burns)
Distributive - reduced systemic vascular resistance with normal cardiac function (sepsis, anaphylaxis, Addisonian crisis, spinal trauma)
Obstructive - impaired ventricular filling or obstruction of outflow tract e.g PE, tension pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade)
What’re the signs of shock?
Low Blood Pressure (
What’re some useful investigations in shock?
ECG
CXR - pulmonary oedema, tension pneumothorax
Echocardiogram - cardiogenic shock due to pump dysfunction
ABG - raised lactate
