Shock Flashcards
1
Q
Acute syndrome of organ and system dysfunction precipitated by failure of circulation to meet the needs of metabolically active tissues?
A
Shock
2
Q
What is the primary physiologic dysfunction of shock?
A
Impaired cellular function due to decreased nutritional blood flow.
3
Q
What is going on during shock?
A
Reduced oxygen and nutrient supply > anaerobic metabolism > acid production (lactic and pyruvic) > decreased ATP and reduced energy
4
Q
What enzyme is responsible for destroying the cell and eating its cellular contents when the pH decreases?
A
Proteolytic enzyme
5
Q
Is cellular change reversible once membrane integrity is lost?
A
NO!
6
Q
What are some types of shock?
A
- Hypovolemia
- Sepsis
- Pump Failure
- Anaphylaxis
- Obstruction to blood flow
- Nervous system disturbance causing poor distribution of cardiac output.
