Shock Flashcards
What types of shock are classed as distributive shock?
Septic
Neurogenic
Anaphylactic
How is septic shock presented?
○ Body temperature outside 36 oC - 38 o C
○ HR >90 beats/min
○ Respiratory rate >20/min
○ WBC count >12,000/mm3 or < 4,000/mm3.
What are the 3 hallmarks of septic shock?
○ Excessive inflammation
○ Coagulation
Fibrinolytic suppression.
How often can adrenaline be given in anaphylactic shock?
Every 5 mins
What is the action of neurogenic shock?
Interruption to autonomic nervous system
- decreased peripheral vascular resistance leading to marked vasodilation
- leads to decreased preload and thus decreased cardiac output
- leads to decreased peripheral tissue perfusion
What is the management of neurogenic shock?
Peripheral vasoconstrictors
