Shld & Arm act/nerve Origin/Insertion Flashcards
Deltoid act/nerve
All fibers abduct the shoulder. Ant. fibers flex the shoulder, med. rot., the shoulder and horizontally adduct. Post fibers extend, lat. rot. and horizontally abduct.
Axillary nerve
Trapezius act/nerve
Upper fibers: Bil extend the head and neck, ipsilaterally flex head/neck, contralaterally rotate head/neck, elevate scapula, upwardly rotate the scapula
Middle fibers: adduct the scap, and stabilize the scap
Lower fibers: depress the scap, upwardly rotate the scap (force couple with UT and Ser Ant.)
Spinal accessory/Ventral ramus nerves
Latissimus Dorsi act/nerve
Extend the shoulder, adduct the shoulder, med. rot. the shoulder
Thoracodorsal nerve
Teres Major act/nerve
Extend the shoulder, adduct the shoulder, med. rot. the shoulder
Lower subscapular nerve
Supraspinatus act/nerve
Abduct the shoulder, stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Suprascapular nerve
Infraspinatus act/nerve
Lat. rot sholder, adduct shoulder, stabilize the head of the humerus
Suprascapular nerve
Teres minor act/nerve
Lat rot. shoulder, adduct the shoulder, stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Axillary nerve
Subscapularis act/nerve
Med rot shoulder, stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
Upper & lower subscapular nerve
Rhomboid major act/nerve
Adduct the scapula, elevate the scapula, downwardly rotate the scapula
Dorsal scapular nerve
Rhomboid minor act/nerve
Adduct the scapula, elevate the scapula, downwardly rotate the scapula
Dorsal scapular
Levator scapula act/nerve
Uni: Elevate the scapula, downwardly rotate scap, laterally flex head/neck, ipsilaterally rotate head/neck. Bil: Extend the head/neck
Cervical 3,4, Dorsal scapular nerve
Serratus Anterior act/nerve
With origin fixed: Abduct the scap (protraction), upwardly rotate the scap, depress the scap, hold the medial border of the scap to the rib cage.
With scapula fixed: May elevate thorax during forced inhalation.
Long thoracic nerve
Pectoralis major act/nerve
All fibers: Adduct the shoulder, med rot the shoulder, assist to elevate the thorax during forced inhalation.
Upper fibers: Flex the sholder, horizontally adduct the shoulder
Lower fibers: Extend the shoulder to lateral midline
Upper: Lateral pectoral nerve
Lower: Lateral and medial pectoral nerve
Pectoralis minor act/nerve
Depress the scapula, abduct the scap, downwardly rotate the scap.
With scapula fixed: Assist to elevate thorax during forced inhalation.
Medail pectoral nerve
Subclavius act/nerve
Depress the clavicle & draw it anteriorly, elevate the first rib, stabilize the sternoclavicular joint
Subclavian nerve
Biceps brachii act/nerve
Flex the elbow, supinate the forearm, flex the shoulder.
Musculocutaneous nerve
Triceps brachii act/nerve
All heads: Extend the elbow
Long head: Extend the shoulder, adduct the shoulder
Radial nerve
Coracobrachialis act/nerve
Flex the shoulder, adduct the shoulder
Musculocutaneous nerve
