AO2: **the adjectives “confident” and “pleased” **suggests that they didn’t believ they could be held accountable for doing anything wrong until the inspector came and checked them
. also suggests that shes understanding the inspectors methods of passivley getting the person to realise their responsibility
“you musn’t try to build up a wall between us and that girl”
AO2: noun “wall” probably refers to class divide between them and sheila is urging them not to let that get in the way of accepting responsibility of their actions just because eva was lower class
. still uses the demonstrative prounoun “that” and the noun “girl” to refer to eva as if she’s still subconsiously putting a wall between them as maybe she feels too much guilt if she fully humanises eva.

AO2:** Metaphor for inspector methodically going through them untill they admit responsibility** shows that she’s wiser than she looks
“probably between us we killed her”
AO2: blunt using verb “killed” suggest she understands the seriousness of the situation
theme: shared responsibility “between” Adverb suggests they all had a part to play “Us” pronoun

AO2: phrase “not a child” want’s to be taken seriously
Context: young women would’ve been infantalised constantly as they wouldn’t have been taken seriously
“you were the wonderful fairy prince. you must’ve loved it gerald”
AO2: Metaphor “fairy prince” just means she thinks that gerald enjoyed saving the damsel in distress and that he liked having her indebted to him
“loved it” - shes taking the piss out of him
“mother i think it was cruel and vile”
AO2: doubling of adjectives “cruel and Vile” suggets that sheila disgaress with sybils actions
. makes her seem more moral
context: would’ve been seen as impolite to judge the actions of your elders/ parents and seen as disrespectful so shows that she has morals as she will stand up for what she thinks is right
