What is Sheehan’s Syndrome?
a loss of large amount of blood or severely low blood pressure during/after childbirth leading to deprivation of oxygen to pituitary, leading to necrosis
What are the symptoms of Sheehan’s Syndrome?
Fatigue
Lerthargic
Intolerance to cold
Memorrhagia
Hoarse voice
Myalgia
Weight gain
Constipation
What are the signs of Sheehan’s syndrome?
Round puffy face
Bradycardia + low blood pressure
Cold hands
Non-putting oedema
Thin and dry skin
What are the blood tests and their results for Sheehan’s Syndrome?
Estradiol, FSH, LH: low
U&E: hyponatramia
Cortisol and ACTH: low
TFT: normal/low TSH and low T3/4
Which hormone replacement therapy would you request to treat Sheehan’s Syndrome?
Prednisone (corticosteroids)
Levothyroxine (TSH)
Eostrogen (+ progesterone if uterus is not removed)
GH (lows cholesterol levels)
What is Adrenal Crisis?
Life-threatening state where Adrenal cortex produces too little cortisol > causes low blood pressure, low blood glucose levels and hyperkalemia
