how was tension created
For the 5th century BC audience tension was created by Sophocles dramatic methods as he retold the story.
21st century audience, I aim to create tension through my staging ideas and my direction of my cost. These are the production methods that I would employ.
what was creons decree
Polynices who Creon swore is a traitor to the city, having led an army against thebes. Antigone is angered by the fact that Creon has decreed Polyneices Body should lie unburied and unwept.
Creon offends the expectations of the gods in relation to decent burial.
women’s in Greece
It was the tradition for women in the family to perform the burial rites of Dead family members. Antigone is defined as she feels it is her duty to bury Poleneces in spite of crayons decree.
Position as a Greek woman who would be seen as less important than men.
Ancient Greek women were all seen as weak by society and a large part of Antigone’s character is based around contradicting mortal societal values.
what makes a tragic hero
what makes the protagonist of Tragic Hero is the fact that at the beginning of the play they are about to embark on a journey that unbeknown to the character will lead to their downfall, possibly ending in death.
example of a tragic hero
the character must be someone who is part of the nobility,
They do not see themselves as flawed until their demise is fully realised. This flaw is then fatal to them. (Hamartia.)
