Q

(RP) How can you investigate SHC?

A

1) have a block of material, i.e. copper, with two holes in the top for thermometer and heater
2) Wrap it in an insulating layer i.e. aluminium foil
3) Measure the initial temp and set the V to 10V
4) Turn on the power and start a stop watch
5) Take a reading every ten minutes for the temp
6) When you’ve collected enough readings turn it off
7) Plot a graph using results
8) Find the gradient of the straight part and work out the SHC
9) Repeat experiment using different materials to see how they compare
