Covering converting measurements, perimeter, area, volume and surface area
How many mm in a cm?
1cm = 10mm
How many cm in a m?
1m = 100cm
How many m in a km?
1km = 1000m
How many grams in a kilogram?
1kg = 1000g
How many millilitres in a litre?
1litre = 1000ml
How do you find the PERIMETER of a shape?
ADD all the sides
How do you find the AREA of a square or rectangle?
LENGTH x WIDTH
How do you find the AREA of a triangle?
(base x height) ÷ 2
How do you find the SURFACE AREA of a cube?
length x width x 6
(OR list the faces)
How do you find the SURFACE AREA of a cuboid?
LIST THE FACES
(front, back, top, bottom, left, right)
Find the AREA (length x width) of each face
ADD all the AREAS to find total surface area
How do you find the VOLUME of a cube or cuboid?
length x width x height
How do you find the VOLUME of a triangular prism?
(length x width x height) ÷ 2
What is the formula to work out the CIRCUMFERENCE of a circle?
pi x diameter (πd)
What is the formula to work out the AREA of a circle?
pi x radius x radius (πr²)
What is the formula to work out the VOLUME of a cylinder?
pi x radius x radius x height (πr²h)
How do you work out the SURFACE AREA of a cylinder?
LIST THE FACES
Find the area of each face: Area of circle (πr²) + Area of circle (πr²) + Area of rectangle (πdh)
Add to find total
What do the angles in a triangle add up to?
180 degrees
What do the angles in any quadrilateral (4 sided shape) add up to?
360 degrees
How do you work out the DISTANCE when given the speed and time?
Distance = speed x time
(Draw a triangle with D at top)
(Make sure time is in same units as speed)
How do you work out the MASS when given the density and volume?
Mass = density x volume
(Draw a triangle with M at top)
