What should you do under The Management of Health and Safety Regulations?
To look for hazards and identify risks in the salon.
Why is personal hygiene important?
To avoid cross infection. To prevent accidents.
What hazards can you deal with?
Spillages, trailing wires, moving boxes out of the way and making the salon safe.
What hazards do you need to report?
Faulty equipment.
What is dermatitis?
Inflamed skin.
How do you prevent dermatitis occurring?
Wear gloves, dry hands properly.
What is an inflammation of the skin?
Contact dermatitis.
What is an accelerator?
Equipment that adds heat to open the hair.
What should you check on an accelerator?
That it is safe to use.
Why is it important to report low stock levels of shampoo and conditioner?
So that the correct products can be used when needed for the desired result. This prepares the hair correctly.
Who do you report low levels of stock to?
Manager.
Why do you always need a clean and tidy area. Work area or backwash/basin area.
To avoid injuries.
What is cross infection?
An infection that passes from person to person.
How do you prevent this happening when shampooing and conditioning hair?
Change towels for every client. Always use a clean, new towel for each client.
How does shampoo/detergent work on water?
It breaks the surface tension.
If you spot anything on the clients scalp, such as sores or cuts what would you do?
Report it to the stylist who you are shampooing for.
What would make the client get wet during a shampoo?
Them moving during the shampoo process or incorrect positioning.
Why should you only need the shampoo and conditioner that you need (1-2 pumps only)?
To prevent waste and salon costs.
What would washing coloured hair regularly with medicated or pre-perm shampoo do?
Make the colour fade.
What does a surface conditioner do?
Coats the surface, closing the cuticle.
What does a penetrating conditioner do?
Penetrates into the cortex and adds moisture.
What hair condition best suits a penetrating conditioner?
Damaged, dry or chemically damaged.
Why should you rinse all products out effectively?
To prevent irritation to the scalp.
