Comedy
A drama that is light and amusing with a happy ending.
Protagonist
The main character in a work.
Antagonist
A character in a work who opposes the protagonist
Soliloquy
Typically a long speech in which a character is alone on stage and expresses their thoughts aloud.
Verse
Style of writing which may use technical devices and rhyme, typically associated with poetry.
Prose
Not associated with poetry, made up of sentences and paragraphs
The Elizabeth Era
A time period associated with Queen Elizabeth’s reign (1558-1603). Often known as the golden age of theater and English history.
Couplet
A stanza comprised of two consecutive lines of verse, typically rhymed.
English Renaissance
Meaning “rebirth”, this term is used to refer to cultural and artistic movements in England in the early sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
